The effect on the day length and intensity of El Nino of Global Warming
A few years ago the humanity came to a hard conclusion: Earth was warming progressively and dangerously in a measurable way. And the cause - though still heavily discussed over - seemed to be the human harsh activities over the planet, the excessive abuse of the resources of Nature began to put its bill on the human race and the rest of inhabitants of our small biosphere.

Nevertheless, not so much effort has been put until today to stop the phenomenon currently known as “Global Warming”. And as long as whole ecosystems are still disappearing in front of our indolent eyes, the Earth is day after day running a high risk of climatic change which can put us into another ice age or some event of an even worse nature.
A recent study in the Free University of Berlin, Germany has revealed that the global warming - if the emissions of carbonic gases is not stopped - will have a direct impact on the duration of the days, increasing them by 1 millisecond.
The reason is that the strength of the winds, which is a key factor in the duration of the days will be affected by the appearance of stronger and more frequent “El Niño” phenomena. “El Niño” is an atmospheric and oceanic phenomenon caused by the increase in the temperature of oceanic water, and it is accompanied by the presence of strong winds and copious precipitations. Usually, there are only a few appearances of strong “El Niño” phenomena, counting 3 between 1980 and 2000, but due to the higher temperatures of the sea projected for the next century, stronger “El Niño” can be forecasted.
In countries such as Ecuador, the appearances of strong “El Niño” phenomena follows a cycle of about 7 years and have caused terrible losses of life and properties due the floods that the intense raining provokes.
Now that we celebrate the Day of Earth, it is important to take into account that the planet has 365 days per year and that it deserves our respect not only one day per year.
