Obama bets on Scientific Research for the future of the US

In one of those historic speeches, President of the United States of America - Barack Obama - has declared that his Administration will invest 3% of the GDP in Scientific Research.

President Barack Obama has pledged to return the United States to a "high water mark" of scientific achievement, on Monday at the Conference at the National Academy of Sciences. Obama has vowed to increase substantially the budget for Research&Development, in franc opposition to the NeoCons (fascist) Administration of former President Bush.

In a moment of international concern, regarding the recent outbreak of Swine Flu in Mexico and 5 states of the US, the Administration is fully compromised to the scientific development and in the particular case of the epidemia, it has put the necessary resources to work on.

At such a difficult moment, there are those who say we cannot afford to invest in science, that support for research is somehow a luxury at a moment defined by necessities. I fundamentally disagree. Science is more essential for our prosperity, our security, our health, our environment, and our quality of life than it has ever been.

According to President Obama, the high water mark of Science Investment was set during the Space Race. Billions of dollars were destined to put the man on Earth and the technology was likewise propelled in an unprecedented way during that period.

I am here today to set this goal: we will devote more than three percent of our GDP to research and development. We will not just meet, but we will exceed the level achieved at the height of the space race.

Within the plans of the Administration is the creation of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Energy ARPA-e, which aims to develop on high-risk and high-output technology.

Personally, I believe that this is the best news since the end of former Administration, so aimed to "invest" in weapons. A better future is ahead of us, that is for sure. The only issue behind the effort committed by the Administration is the high chance that the common citizen might not agree (specially if manipulated by the opposition).
