GSM stands for “Global System for Mobile Communication”. At the beginning, it was the acronym of Groupe Spécial Mobile , developed in 1982 by the European Conference of Postal and Telecommunications Administrations and was intended to become an European standard, and now it is probably the most popular standard for mobile phone technology in the whole world.
Currently, GSM signals are spread in the 850, 900, 1800 and 1900 Mhz frequencies. GSM belongs to the group of mobile communications technologies commonly known as Second Generation (2G).
